Fiber Internet Service is On the Way!
7:45PM May 22, 2018
Providing fiber internet service to our members is one of the biggest, most exciting, and rewarding projects we have ever taken on. The decision to offer Consolidated Fiber was made by Consolidated Cooperative’s Board of Directors less than one year ago and, since that time, we have been actively working to realize our goal of providing fiber internet service to all members throughout our electric service territory. We want to take the opportunity to update you on our progress.
Earlier this spring, we announced that construction of the fiber-optic network had begun in the Houseman fiber zone. Houseman was chosen as the first build area, or pilot zone, because of its small size, lack of internet service availability, and the amount of interest shown by members living in that zone. We are excited to announce that we are on schedule to begin offering service to customers in the Houseman fiber zone in early June.
The good news doesn’t stop there. We have completed fiber network planning and design in eight additional fiber zones and are preparing to begin construction in one or more of those fiber zones. We are currently accepting orders for service in Ostrander North and Ostrander South, and we will soon be accepting orders in the other fiber zones where planning and design is complete. Once we hit zone specific sign up goals (signing up involves selecting an internet plan and paying an installation fee), we will move your fiber zone to the construction phase, which could begin as soon as this summer.
Response from our members has been extraordinary. We know it can be frustrating for you to realize that your community may not be able to get fiber as soon as others. With more than 1,878 miles of electric lines in eight counties, it takes a lot of planning and construction over several years to provide service to all members. We would love to communicate that we will be reaching all our members in a very short time. The reality is, however, that the magnitude of the project and the considerable costs involved require us to project full deployment over a period of five to six years. We know you are excited—we are, too, and will be working diligently to bring fiber internet to you as soon as we can. Ultimately, our goal is that every home and business in Consolidated Cooperative’s service area will have access to high-speed fiber internet.
You and your neighbors have significant influence over the schedule of when your area will be served. Using this website, register your interest (no payment or commitment is required until your fiber zone reaches the sign-up phase) and encourage your neighbors to do the same. There are many factors that contribute to our construction schedule, including costs and other considerations. That said, your interest, and your neighbors’ interest, is one of the most important factors. Please submit only one registration per address. Not sure if you have registered? Give our office a call.
We send sincere thanks to every single member for your continued support.
